If you do not hold a bachelor's degree . . .

Those who are interested in secondary education can complete an undergraduate education degree in one of the secondary fields offered (biology education, English education, math education, physical education, romance languages education, and social studies education) which leads to certification through Cameron or they can complete an undergraduate degree in the specific content area and seek alternative certification through the Oklahoma State Department of Education. Those who elect to become alternatively certified may choose to complete the M.Ed. in Education with a concentration in Teaching & Learning to gain valuable knowledge, skills, and dispositions that will help them succeed in the classroom.

If you already hold a bachelor's degree . . .

Those who hold a bachelor's degree can seek alternative certification through the Oklahoma State Department of Education. Those who elect to become alternatively certified may choose to complete the M.Ed. in Education with a concentration in Teaching & Learning to gain valuable knowledge, skills, and dispositions that will help them succeed in the classroom.

Education courses are available in a variety of formats including nights, weekends, and online. Unfortunately at this time it is not possible to complete an entire degree in an alternative format.

Because the required field experiences correspond to course content, prior experience cannot be substituted.

Typically, students in the elementary and early childhood programs apply for admission during their third semester at Cameron. Students in secondary programs should apply so that they are admitted no later than the end of semester four. See the Education Student Services office to apply for admission.

The interview is only one requirement for admission to teacher education. Interviews for admission occur five times during the year, to correspond with the return of OGET scores. Students are encouraged to begin the application process early. See the Education Student Services office to set up an interview.

Registration information is available online at the CEOE website, http://www.ceoe.nesinc.com/, or in the Education Student Services office.

Students are encouraged to take the OGET after completing the following courses: Comp 1, Comp 2, one math, one science, one humanity, U.S. history, and government. This typically occurs during the semester three.

Elementary and Early Childhood education students are encouraged to take the OSAT during semester 6 or 7, after completing at least ½ of Diagnosis & Remediation of Reading Difficulties. Additionally, students should have completed or be concurrently enrolled in Language Arts Methods, Social Studies Methods, Mathematics Methods, Science Methods, and Wellness & Exercise Science. Secondary education students are encouraged to take the OSAT after completing at least 30 hours in the major.

Students should take the OPTE during the same semester as student teaching.
