Letter from the Chair

Stephanie BossWelcome to Cameron University and we are excited that you have expressed an interest in exploring our webpage and the different degree options available to you within the Health and Physical Education Department.  As our mission, the Department of Health and Physical Education is dedicated to providing quality educational experiences that prepare undergraduate students for successful careers in teaching, coaching, corporate, medical, and/or community based settings that embrace lifetime health, fitness, and physical activity of its constituents.

Our undergraduate program offers a mixture of academic coursework and fieldwork opportunities in the teaching/coaching, exercise science, or sport-fitness management discipline.  Emphasis of preparation includes placement of the student ‘early on’ within the real world setting.  To achieve this outcome, our commitment relies in the ability to collaborate with community based businesses/school sites and surrounding institutions with the intent to build upon the student’s unique skill set throughout the degree program.

Central to the success of this department is its faculty. We boast a student-focused, service oriented, and highly energetic faculty. Our faculty is involved in a variety of projects to include: Fit Kids Coalition, Special Olympics, Lawton Public Schools, Military Based Activities, and Gateway Success Center. These projects provide numerous opportunities for our undergraduate students to become involved in the community and develop networking skills for future endeavors.

We invite you to explore our website to determine which program will best fit your needs. If you would like more information about the degree programs in our department, I would be happy to assist you in any way possible and look forward to visiting with you in the near future.
