2013-2014 News

May 30, 2014: Cara Belcher, one of our second-year History Majors won an internship with the National Archives at College Park, MD through the Washington Center's Federal Diversity Internship Initiative.  The purpose of the initiative is to "assist the federal government with hiring and training the next generation of leaders."  The internship, which provides a stipend to cover living expenses in Washington, D.C., housing, and assistance with professional development, is a unique opportunity.  Cara will be interning at College Park from June 9 through August 16.  Wish her luck as she embarks on this adventure!

May 16-20, 2014: Kelly High, a double major in History & Political Science, attended the N.E.W. Leadership Institute at the University of Oklahoma's Carl Albert Center.  She especially enjoyed meeting Jari Askins as well as the exchanges of views amongst the participants in the institute.

April 8, 2014: Edris Montalvo, our redoubtable Geographer, won the  Award for Excellence and Innovation in Scholarship and Artistic Endeavor in the Education Enterprise for this academic year.  The awarding committee cited his work with students and faculty on the Race, Ethnicity, and Place VI Conference held in San Juan, Puerto Rico in October 2012.  Edris worked tirelessly to make it possible for faculty to take part in the conference and to mentor a number of students who were presenting their academic work at a professional conference for the first time.
