The Oklahoma Murals Experience

Shaping Culture Shaping Lives, Native American muralists

Cameron University Library in cooperation with Comanche Nation College hosted three contemporary Native American muralists on October 10, 2007.  Quannah Parker Burgess (Comanche), Jose Lucero (Kiowa), and Huzo Paddlelty (Kiowa) presented samples of their works and discussed their roles as a new generation of Native American muralists.  Although they were inspired by the flat style and decorative paintings of the past, these three muralists see themselves as painters in search of new ideas and new mediums of expression.  The event allowed participants to experience murals and assimilate information about their contribution to native culture.  The Oklahoma Humanities Council supported The Oklahoma Murals Experience through grant funds.
