Gowan named CU Director of Community Relations

Jana Gowan has been named Director of Community Relations at Cameron University. Gowan, a native of Lawton, was formerly Staff Researcher and Writer at the university, a post she has held since May 2006. In her new position, she is responsible for all public relations and marketing functions of the university, including development and production of publications, ad placement, assistance in coordinating university events, overseeing distribution of information to the media and responding to media requests, and other duties as requested by university officials.

"Jana demonstrated her abilities to coordinate the wide variety of responsibilities of the office while serving as acting director previously," said Jamie Glover, Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management and former Director of Community Relations. "She exemplifies the work ethic and creativity that the position requires, and I know she will continue to be a great asset to the university."

Gowan earned a B.A. in English and Film Studies from the University of Tulsa, where she was a National Merit Scholar and Presidential Scholar. She then continued her higher education at the University of Warwick, Coventry, UK, earning an M.A. in Gender, Literature, and Modernity. Prior to her employment at CU, she was an instructor in Fujisawa, Japan, where she taught English as a second language.
