Cameron University undergraduate students are encouraged to submit original, unpublished poems for consideration for the John G. Morris Poetry Prize. Morris, Professor of English and Foreign Languages, established the contest in 2007 in honor of his late mother, Marian Cary Miles Morris-Zepp. Entry deadline is Friday, February 13. Contest rules and entry forms are available in the Office of English and Foreign Languages, Nance-Boyer Room 2014, or at www.cameron.edu/~johnmor/JohnMorrisPoetryPrize/index.html.
The contest is open to all CU undergraduate students. Each student may submit up to five original, unpublished poems which will be evaluated by an independent judge. Poems will be judged on freshness and originality in idea, image and form; exact and precise execution of whatever the poet attempts; and usage of the right words in the right order. The winner of the contest will receive $250; a second prize of $150 has been added for this year.
