Cameron University's Department of Communication honored students during its annual awards ceremony and also conducted induction ceremonies for Lambda Pi Eta and Pi Kappa Delta. Lambda Pi Eta is the national honorary society for undergraduates in communication that recognizes, fosters, and rewards outstanding scholastic achievement while stimulating interest in the communication discipline. Pi Kappa Delta is a national honorary society that recognizes outstanding students who participate in competitive speech and debate events.
Awards were presented in numerous categories. Recipients in the field of Speech were Tabetha Kautzman, Marlow, who received the Dr. Richard Smith Outstanding Debate Competitor Award, and Pierre Liburd, Sandy Point, St. Kitts & Nevis, who was honored with the Tony Allison Outstanding Forensics Contributor Award. Jordan Scribner of Jenks received the Dr. J.C. Hicks Outstanding Individual Events Competitor Award, which was presented by Jeff Shaw, Lawton attorney, a former member of the CU speech team.
In the Broadcast field, students specializing in Radio/Television were recognized. Awards were presented to Cecilio Ramirez-Cibes, Lawton, for Television Producing; Michael Faggett, Dallas, TX, for Television Photography; Kyle Luetters, Garden City, KS, and Jenyann Roig, Lawton, for Television Directing; Sylvia Reyes, Lawton, for Best Crew Member, and Katherine Tiberghien, Lawton, Radio Production.
Public Relations/Organizational Communication were honored as follows: Chelsea Robertson, Lawton and Kyndle J. Palmer, Whitesboro, TX, Academic Excellence; Palmer, Outstanding Intern; Nicole Roames, Lawton, Outstanding Senior in PR; Tanesha Wilson, Lawton, Outstanding Service in PR; Jennifer Knapp, Duncan, Young Professional of the Year.
Journalism students were recognized for their contributions to The Collegian, the CU newspaper. News Management Awards went to Joshua Rouse, and Bennett Dewan, both of Lawton, and Jim Horinek, Duncan. Kyle Luetters, Garden City, KS, and Katie Batule and Nicole Roames, both of Lawton, each received awards for Convergent Media. Other award recipients were Saman Samii, Norrkoping, Sweden, Sports Reporting; Kerry Myers, Lawton, Advertising; Ibirajara Vidal, Salvador-Bahia, Brazil, Arts Reporting; Justin Cliburn, Lawton, News Writing; and John Robertson, Lawton, News Editing.
Alexis Del Ciello and Quentin Farrell, both of Lawton, and Kyndle J. Palmer, Whitesboro, TX, were inducted into Lambda Pi Eta and received Research Awards.
