CU sponsors Health Fair for students, faculty, staff

Cameron University will host the Aggie Health Fair for all CU students, faculty and staff Wednesday, Sept. 2 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the CETES Conference Center. The event is designed to support the goal of a healthier lifestyle for members of the CU family.

"The Aggie Health Fair will be the ideal time for our students, faculty and staff to embrace a healthier lifestyle," says Jennifer Holland, Dean of Student Services. "Our goal is to provide information on healthy living that can be utilized by participants of all ages. In order to give people a kick-start, we will be giving out pedometers during the Aggie Health Fair for a ‘most steps' competition. The student, faculty/staff member and four-member family with the most steps through October 2 will be rewarded with a prize basket full of health and fitness items."

The Aggie Health Fair will feature presentations on tobacco cessation, first aid/CPR, sports nutrition and sports injury prevention in addition to offering free blood pressure checks, dental and eye screenings, HIV testing and other screenings. Ten massage therapists will be on-site to provide 15-minute therapeutic massages at no charge. The CU Fitness Center will present 15-minute introductory sessions that demonstrate the various aerobic classes offered, and Sodexho will provide samples of the healthy new menu available in the Shepler Cafeteria. Sodexho will also conduct cooking demonstrations with tips on healthy eating.

More than 30 community health care providers will be on hand offering services ranging from mental health, substance abuse, medication management, diabetes management, nutrition and more. Attendees are also eligible for prize giveaways, which include bicycles, a WII Fit, and other fitness equipment.
