Heather Sparks, 2009 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year, will be the featured speaker at a gathering sponsored by the Cameron University chapter of the Student Oklahoma Education Association (SOEA). Sparks, whose topic will be "New Century, New Teacher," will speak on Wednesday, September 9 at 2 p.m. in the CETES Conference Center on the CU campus. The event is open to the public at no charge.
Sparks is a National Board Certified math teacher from Taft Middle School in Oklahoma City. In addition to being named 2009 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year by the Oklahoma Department of Education, she was honored as Oklahoma City Public Schools 2008 Teacher of the Year. She received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching in 2007.
