Cameron University to celebrate Homecoming

Cameron University invites alumni, parents and friends to join students, faculty and staff for Homecoming 2009: Celebrating a Century, Building The Future. From February 20 - 21, the Cameron campus will feature a variety of events, including a bonfire and pep rally, basketball games, coronation of the homecoming king and queen, and the second annual Athletics Hall of Fame banquet.

"Homecoming is the perfect opportunity for Cameron alumni and supporters to see first-hand how the campus has been transformed," says Jennifer Bowen, Director of Alumni Relations. "The pep rally and bonfire are sure to get everyone in the Aggie spirit, and we've got a great live band for our tailgate party. We'll also be saluting several alumni and athletic groups, and the Alumni Association will be presenting its annual awards. We're inviting anyone with ties to the university to join us during Homecoming to celebrate Cameron's Centennial."

On Friday, February 20, CU invites all alumni who graduated 50 or more years ago to the Golden Associates Reunion and Lunch, scheduled for noon in the Centennial Room of the Shepler Center. Tickets for this luncheon are $15 each; call the Office of Alumni Relations at 581-2288 to purchase.

The Second Annual CU Athletics Hall of Fame Reception and Banquet takes place on Friday night beginning at 5 p.m. in the CU Fitness Center. This year, six deserving athletes will be inducted. Dinner tickets are $30 and can be purchased from the Office of Alumni Relations, 581-2288.

Following the gala Hall of Fame induction, the excitement moves outdoors as CU students present and past join faculty, staff and fans for a bonfire and pep rally at 9 p.m. The action takes place on the west side of the Field House adjacent to Cameron Stadium.

On Saturday, February 21, special reunions have been organized for the classes of 1958, 1959, 1983 and 1984, as well as for the Aggie Parents Association, Greek Life, and PLUS students. These "coffees" start at 9:30 a.m. and take place at the McMahon Center at Cameron Village and in the Shepler Center. These get-togethers will offer attendees a perfect opportunity to catch up with old friends, reminisce about their CU experiences, and learn what's happening with one another today.

At 10:30 that morning, the Aggie Family and Friends Awards Brunch takes place in the Shepler Ballroom. During this festive occasion, the Cameron University Alumni Association will honor inductees into the Faculty Hall of Fame as well as the recipients of the Distinguished Alumni Award and the Outstanding Young Alumni Award.

Aggie spirit gets into full gear at the Homecoming Tailgate Party at the CETES Courtyard from 12:30 - 2 p.m. Join us for hot dogs, live music provided by The Little Bobby Douglass Band, and get ready to cheer the Aggies on to victory.

At 2 p.m., the Aggies women's basketball team tips off against the University of Central Oklahoma, following by the men's team taking the court at 4 p.m. During halftime of the women's game, the 1983 National Championship Men's Golf Team will be recognized, as will all past Cameron golfers in attendance.

Athletic Hall of Fame inductees will be introduced in between the women's and men's games, and the homecoming king and queen coronation will take place during halftime of the men's basketball game.
