Dr. Carolyn Kinslow, Director of the Center for Writers at Cameron University, has been elected President of the South Central Writing Centers Association (SCWCA). SCWCA membership is made up of writing specialists from Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana. The election of officers took place during the association's annual conference, held in early April at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.
Founded in 1989, SCWCA is a regional affiliate of the International Writing Centers Association. SCWCA fosters communication among writing center personnel and provides a forum for professional concerns. Members include directors and staff of writing centers and persons interested in writing center theory and practice. The organization also supports scholarship and networking by holding annual conferences and serving members by fostering co-inquiry, mentoring, and communication and by maintaining regional listservs, distribution lists and newsletters.
During her tenure as president, Kinslow will chair the Executive Board and preside at business meetings, conduct annual board and general meetings at conferences call for votes on issues as needed, and moderate discussions, among other duties. She previously served as Vice President of the organization.
