Cameron University's Office of Veterans Affairs strongly encourages individuals who plan to utilize Veteran Administration educational benefits for the Summer 2009 and/or Fall 2009 semesters to enroll no later than Tuesday, March 31.
Enrollment at Cameron begins Tuesday, March 24. Graduate students and seniors can enroll on that date. Juniors can enroll on Wednesday, March 25; sophomores on Thursday, March 26; and freshmen on Friday, March 27.
Copies of the Summer/Fall 2009 enrollment schedule are scheduled to be available on campus Monday, March 23.
Vicki Henson, Coordinator of CU's Veterans Affairs office, encourages veterans to use the days leading up to enrollment to visit with their advisors to make tentative plans for the courses they should take during the summer and fall semesters.
"All veterans should enroll as soon as possible and then provide the Office of Veterans Affairs with a copy of their enrollment schedules for both summer and fall semesters at the same time," Henson says. "This facilitates a smooth continuation of educational benefits if they are currently utilizing them to go to college. If they are new students, this will enable benefits to be initiated faster."
Students who owe charges to the University will not be allowed to enroll until those charges are paid, so Henson urged veterans to clear holds or plan on a delay in benefits.
Henson offered additional tips to make the financial assistance process easier for veterans:
- Plan course selections carefully with an advisor.
- Students who wish to receive reimbursement should take only required courses for their VA educational plan.
- Students should avoid making multiple changes to their schedules, since that delays processing of educational benefits
Henson asked that students provide the CU Office of Veterans Affairs with a completed class schedule for the Summer 2009 semester no later than Tuesday, March 31, and for the Fall 2009 semester by Monday, June 8, at the latest.
