An original work of art by Cameron University professor of art Katherine Liontas-Warren has been added to the permanent collection of the Wichita Falls Museum of Art. "A Greek Story" is one of seven collaborative works of art created by Liontas-Warren and her sons Austin and Colton in 2002, all of which pay homage to their Greek heritage and the children's interest in ancient Greece. The piece will be on display as part of the museum's "New Acquisitions" exhibition through March 29.
"The art that my children and I shared together was a rewarding and mothering experience based on invented stories and personal imagery," Liontas-Warren says. "Together we made interpretations and manipulated a variety of shapes and forms within the composition to create an allegory of surprising and unusual tales.
All of the works of art in the series have been exhibited in national juried shows around the country. Previously, Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN, purchased one of the drawings. In 2003, the 46th Delta Exhibition at the Arkansas Arts Center selected one of the drawings to receive the prestigious Delta Award.
