The Cameron University Department of Music will present Dr. Chris Buckley, guest euphonium performer, in concert on Monday, October 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the McCutcheon Recital Hall. Admission to the concert is free. Buckley completed his Doctorate in Euphonium Performance at the University of North Texas last spring and recently won a position with the U.S. Army Ceremonial Band. He will be accompanied by Doris Lambert, adjunct music instructor, on piano.
Buckley’s repertoire will include “Morceau Symphonique” by Alexandre Guilmant, “Blue Lake Fantasies” by David Gillingham, “Panache” by Dewhurst, “Fantasy Variations” by Ito, and George Harrison’s “Blackbird” arranged by Holmgaard and Chris Buckley.
The euphonium, a brass wind instrument similar to the tuba but having a somewhat higher pitch and a mellower sound, has been referred to as the "king of band instruments" as it is frequently featured as a solo instrument.
In 2002, Buckley was selected as a member of the International Tuba and Euphonium Conference World Honors Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble. He was a semi-finalist at the Leonard Falcone International Euphonium Artist Competition in 2003, won third place in 2005, second place in 2007, and first place in 2009.
