Cameron University Professor of Music Dr. Thomas Labé will present a solo piano recital in the Fine Arts Courtyard on the Cameron campus on Friday, June 18, 2010 at 8 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public. Chairs will be provided; audience members are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs, etc. The program will feature works of Albéniz and Chopin.
As a soloist, Labé has performed in recitals and with orchestras on three continents, including appearances with the Houston, Chattanooga and Kenosha Symphony Orchestras and in prestigious venues including New York's Carnegie Hall, Chicago's Ravinia Festival, the International Piano Festival Monterey (Mexico) and the Staatstheater Darmstadt (Germany). He has recorded for the Dorian, Naxos and Arkadia labels, and his seven commercially released compact discs are heard with great frequency on the playlists of classical music stations the world over. His debut recording, "The Virtuoso Johann Strauss," received a Best of the Year Citation from the editors of H&B Recordings Direct.
As a recording industry professional, Labé is a voting member of The Recording Academy, taking part in the nomination and final voting processes for the annual Grammy Awards. Labé is also well represented on the World Wide Web where his YouTube videos have accumulated more than 100,000 views.
