Cameron University alumni, friends and supporters will head to campus for SuperHomecoming 2011 from February 25-26 for a variety of events that will give classmates the opportunity to revisit their Cameron experiences. Activities on tap include a bonfire and pep rally, basketball games, the second annual Aggie Fun Run/Walk, and the Athletics Hall of Fame banquet.
On Friday, February 25, Cameron athletic boosters will join current and former star athletes and supporters for the Fourth Annual CU Athletics Hall of Fame Reception and Banquet, beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the McCasland Ballroom of the McMahon Centennial Complex. This year’s honorees are tennis player Erica Consen, basketball star Simmie Hill, football standout Bob Kelley, two-sport athlete Ed Marshall and baseball record-holder Jeremy Wagner. Dinner tickets are $30 and must be purchased in advance from the Office of Alumni Relations, 581-2988.
Following the gala Hall of Fame induction, the excitement moves outdoors as CU students present and past join faculty, staff and fans for a bonfire and pep rally at 8:30 p.m. The action takes place south of Cameron Village.
On Saturday, February 26, get your day off to a running start by participating in the Aggie Fun Run/Walk, an energizing run/walk around the Aggie Mile. Check in at the Cameron University Fitness Center, then walk or run at your own pace with your fellow Aggies. The action kicks off at 8 a.m.
The class of 1961 and the 1961 Junior Rose Bowl championship team will gather for an Aggie Family Coffee at 9:30 to reminisce about their Aggie experiences, as will former Cameron University Alumni Association award-winners. Stop by the McMahon Centennial Complex to check in, then take a stroll down memory lane with your fellow Aggie alumni.
At 11 a.m., the Aggie Family and Friends Awards Lunch takes place in the McCasland Ballroom. During this festive occasion, the Class of 1961 will receive their Golden Associates Medallions, and the Cameron University Alumni Association will honor inductees into the Faculty Hall of Fame and the Distinguished Alumni Award. Tickets are $15, and advance reservations are required. Call the Office of Alumni Relations at 581-2988 to register.
Cameron’s George D. Keathley Department of Military Science will host a special reunion for former ROTC cadets beginning at noon in Burch Hall.
Aggie spirit gets into full swing at the SuperHomecoming Tailgate Party beginning at 12:30 p.m. near the Aggie Gym. Join us for free refreshments, music, and more as you get ready to cheer the Aggies on to victory.
At 2 p.m., the Aggies women’s basketball team tips off against the University of Central Oklahoma, followed by the men’s team taking the court at 4 p.m. The 1961 Junior Rose Bowl Team will be featured during halftime of the women’s game, and the new inductees into the Athletics Hall of Fame will be recognized before the men tip off. The 2011 Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned during halftime of the men’s game.
Later that night, the 1961 Junior Rose Bowl team will be honored at a dinner in the McCasland Ballroom of the McMahon Centennial Complex. The 7 p.m. event is open to anyone who wants to celebrate Aggie Athletics. Tickets are $20 per person. For more information, contact Cameron University Athletics at 581-2302.
