Cameron University graduating senior Jiha Choi of Lawton has been awarded a prestigious teaching fellowship with Joseph Banowetz, legendary pianist and pedagogue at the University of North Texas. She graduates from Cameron with a Bachelor of Music degree with a concentration in keyboard performance and is the Department of Music’s Presser Scholar for this year. Choi will be pursuing a Master of Music degree in piano performance.
“Jiha is one of the most talented pianists I have taught,” says Dr. Hyunsoon Whang, Professor of Music and McMahon Endowed Chair in Music. “She has all the ingredients to be successful and become a great pianist: fabulous technique, love of music, depth of emotion and work ethic. She also is a delightful person whom all faculty, staff and students love and admire.”
Choi is a past winner of the Oklahoma Music Teachers Association’s Performance Competition, has attended Aspen Music Festival and School on a full scholarship, and has been a soloist with the Lawton Philharmonic Orchestra.
