Cameron University Communication Department honors students with awards

Cameron University’s Department of Communication honored students during its annual awards ceremony. Awards were presented in numerous categories.

Recipients of Speech Team awards were Kynzie Pierce, Frederick, who was honored with the Dr. J.C. Hicks Outstanding Individual Events Competitor Award; Bishaka Karki, Kathmandu, Nepal, who received the Dr. Richard Smith Outstanding Debate Competitor Award, and Katelynn Wright, Geronimo, who received the Tony Allison Outstanding Forensics Contributor Award.

Karki, Pierce and Savannah Freeman and Casandra Stranga, both of Lawton, were inducted into Pi Kappa Delta, the national honor society for forensics competitors.

In the Broadcast field, students specializing in Radio/Television were recognized. Awards were presented to Colton Rowe, Cache, for Television Producing; Eloise Herbert, Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis, for TV host; and Tiffany Hudson, Lawton, for Television Photography. Sandra O’Brien, Lawton, was honored for Radio Production. Students receiving CUTV Production Awards were Adrian Alexander, Lawton, and Komantcia Jones, Indiahoma. The Darth Tater Excellence in Production Award was presented to Jack McGuire, Lawton.

Patrick Ross received the Skipper Bivins Big Fish Award, which recognizes a student who demonstrates excellence, professionalism, creativity and initiative.

Journalism students were recognized for their contributions to CU’s newspaper, The Collegian, and AggieCentral.com. Receiving awards for Journalistic Excellence were Tyler Boydston, Duncan; Tiffany Martinez, Dianne Riddles, Sarah Brewer and Alexander Rosa-Figueroa, all of Lawton; Kaylee Jones, Bartlesville; and Mitch Watson, Garden City, Kan.

Rowe and Corbin Adams, Elgin, received Lambda Pi Eta Research Awards. Inducted into Lambda Pi Eta, the national honorary society for undergraduates in communication that recognizes, fosters, and rewards outstanding scholastic achievement while stimulating interest in the communication discipline, were Adams; Kaylee Jones; Martinez, O’Brien, Kaleb Castillo of Lawton; Sadie Jones of Fletcher; and Ricky Perry of Grandfield.
