The Cameron University Library and the Lawton Area Reading Council (LARC) will present noted children’s author Rebecca Kai Dotlich in a series of child-oriented presentations on May 1 and 2. Dotlich will entertain fourth and fifth graders on both days at 9:45 a.m., 11 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. The Thursday presentations will take place in the CETES Conference Center, and the Friday presentations are scheduled for the Shepler Ballroom. The presentations are open to the public at no charge.
Dotlich is a poet and picture book author whose work has been featured on Reading Rainbow and has appeared in magazines such as Ladybug and Highlights, as well as in numerous anthologies, textbooks and collections. Her books have been chosen as a Junior Library Guild Selection, 10 Best Books for Babies, IRA Children's Choice, Indiana Best Read Aloud.
Dotlich’s works include the concept book “Away We Go!”, winner of the Gold Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Award; “What is Science?”, a finalist for the AAAS Subaru S&F Prize for excellence in science books; and
“Bella & Bean,” a picture book about two unlikely friends that was referred to as “a nice starting point for a discussion of friendship” by Booklist.
Dotlich has been a contributing columnist and poetry advisor to Creative Classroom magazine and has served on the International Reading Association's Committee on Poetry & Prose Awards. Her poetry books include “Castles;” “old stone poems,” and “Over In The Pink House: New Jump Rope Rhymes.”
LARC is a service organization dedicated to promoting a life-long love of reading and is open to all who strive to give students the gift of reading. The organization provides opportunities for public school students to interact with outstanding authors, illustrators, and presenters.
