Cameron University’s Dr. Abbas Johari honored with Outstanding Reviewer Award

Cameron University faculty member Dr. Abbas Johari has been honored with the Outstanding Reviewer Award by the Cultural and Regional Perspectives section of the Educational Technology Research and Development journal (ETR&D).  ETR&D, the premier journal of the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT), presented the award in recognition of editors whose reviews are meritorious in number and quality and whose hard work assists the journal in maintaining their high standard.

Abbas JohariJohari has been frequently honored by the organization.  In 2017, he received ETR&D’s Outstanding Cultural & Regional Perspectives Reviewer Award.  He has been a member of the AECT Board of Directors since 2018, leads the organization’s Professional Ethics Committee, and has twice been honored with the organization’s Presidential Award. In 2011, he was recognized for his service to AECT and in 2013, was honored for sustained contributions to the area of university service. Johari has assisted numerous doctoral students by serving as a content expert, in addition to serving as the International Review editor for AECT’s Educational Technology Research and Development Journal. He held that role for 10 years. In 2013, he also received AECT’s International Division Distinguished Service Award for his outstanding service to the division. He has served as the international division’s president, president-elect and past president.

Johari joined the Cameron faculty in 1999 and is a Professor in the Department of Computing and Technology. He holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction (Educational Technology) from Arizona State University, where he also earned a Master of Technology degree. He was a member of the Faculty Advisory Council of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education from 2011 to 2013.

Founded as the National Education Association’s Department of Visual Instruction in 1923, AECT is an international association representing professionals in a broad range of occupations who have an interest in improving learning through the use of media and technology. AECT members carry out a wide range of responsibilities in the study, planning, application, and production of communications media for instruction.
