CHEM 4353 - Physical Chemistry I

Course Information

Fall 2007

Physical Chemistry I, CHEM 4353, is course designed to cover the essentials of thermodynamics and their relationship to chemical equilibrium.  The textbook used this semester is Thermodynamics, Statistical Thermodynamics, & Kinetics by Thomas Engel and Philip Reid.  This text is designed to cover predominantly the aspects we will see in Physical Chemistry I, but also includes some chapters that will be used in Physical Chemistry II.

CHEM 4353 is typically taken by junior and senior students majoring in chemistry or physics, though all comers with at least a General Chemistry II, Calculus I and Physics II background are welcome.   The physical chemistry sequence is often required for admission to graduate studies in chemistry, though many graduate schools will allow you to take undergraduate physical chemistry when you arrive in graduate school.

I will be supplementing this course with Blackboard, mostly for the grade tracking abilities.  If I get this figured out right, you will be able to check your current grade at any time by logging into Blackboard and picking this course.  Information on Blackboard by using the navigation bar to the upper right.
