Cinema enthusiasts with a penchant for film noir will learn more about the genre during "Forget it Jake, It's Chinatown: Second-Wave Film Noir,” a lecture by Dr. Jeff Menne, a professor at Oklahoma State University. His presentation will focus on director Roman Polanski’s 1974 neo-noir film, “Chinatown.” The event takes place in the McCasland Ballroom on Thursday, March 23, at 7 p.m. and is open to the public at no charge.
Western Oklahoma State College and Cameron University have entered into an agreement that will enable students majoring in early childhood studies to earn their associate degrees at WOSC, then more easily work toward bachelor’s degrees at Cameron.
Bekah Fountain, news director, for KCCU, has been recognized with the Carolyn Stone Award, presented by the Comanche County Veterans Council (CCVC), for her volunteer work. The award was created to honor those who have given their time to help veterans’ causes. A plaque commemorating Fountain’s selection for the award will be displayed on the “Wall of Honor” at the Fort Sill Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic.
Cameron University-Duncan, in collaboration with Duncan Regional Hospital, Exploring Healthcare Career Opportunities and the Duncan Area Economic Development Foundation, will present Prepared for Success, a career-ready conference, on Wednesday, March 29, from 8:15 until 10:45 a.m. The event takes place at CU-Duncan and is open to high school students throughout southwest Oklahoma as well as current Cameron University students. There is no charge to attend. Pre-registration is encouraged and can be completed at https://www.cameron.edu/duncan/events. Registrations will also be accepted on-site.
Cameron University has again earned designation as a Tree Campus USA®. The national program, launched in 2008 by the Arbor Day Foundation and Toyota, honors colleges and universities and their leaders for promoting healthy trees and engaging students and staff in the spirit of conservation.
The Cameron University Concert Band and 77th Army Band will team up to present “Oklahoma Connections," a concert featuring music inspired by the Sooner State. Slated for Thursday, March 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the University Theatre, the concert is open to the public at no charge.
Cameron University will celebrate the artwork of high school students throughout southwest Oklahoma with its Invitational High School Art Competition and Exhibition. The exhibition will open on Thursday, March 9, in CU’s Teaching Art Gallery, located in the Art Building on the east side of campus in the Louise D. McMahon Fine Arts Complex. A reception for the artists is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Awards will also be presented.
Priority registration for the Summer and Fall 2023 semesters at Cameron University begins on Tuesday, March 21. On that day, graduate students, seniors and honors program students can officially register for classes. Priority registration continues on Wednesday, March 22 for juniors; Thursday, March 23 for sophomores; and Friday, March 24 for freshmen.
Cameron University’s Bill W. Burgess Jr. Business Research Center (BBRC) will examine possible partnerships between the City of Lawton and Native American nations during a business forum on Thursday, March 9. The session, which is open to the public, will take place from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Mary Lou and W. Carey Johnson Auditorium in Ross Hall.
