Cameron University staff members Sandra Bussey and Bob Dill are the recipients of the 2022 Pickaxe Awards, which recognize full-time Cameron employees whose performance is above and beyond expectations. Bussey is an administrative assistant in the Office of Teaching and Learning, and Dill is a systems administrator in Information Technology Services. Each received a $1,000 stipend and a commemorative award.
Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Russel L. Honoré will explore the connection between racial inequality and poverty during Cameron University’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration, an event co-sponsored by Cameron Campus Ministries. Honoré, the keynote speaker, will present “Ending the Cycle of Poverty and Racial Injustice” during a banquet on Monday, January 16, 2023, at 6:30 p.m.
On the heels of a successful Giving Tuesday, the Cameron University Foundation has launched its year-end fundraising campaign. As with Giving Tuesday, donations will be earmarked for the Aggie Fund, which is dedicated to ensuring all students have the opportunity to achieve a Cameron education.
Cameron University faculty member Dr. Abbas Johari has been honored with the 2022 Editors Reviewer Excellence Award by the editors of the Educational Technology Research and Development (ETR&D) journal. The award recognizes exemplary academic services in support of the publication. ETR&D is the premier journal of the Association for Educational Communications and Technology.
When the Lawton Schubert Music Club, Fort Sill's New Post Chapel and the Cameron University/Lawton Civic Chorus present the 81st performance of Handel’s Messiah, they’ll do so with a chorus of more than 80 vocalists from southwest Oklahoma taking the stage. One of the oldest holiday traditions in this region is slated for Saturday, December 10, at 7:30 p.m. at the McMahon Auditorium. Admission is free.
The Cameron University Department of Art, Music and Theatre Arts will present the CU Percussion Ensemble in concert on Friday, December 2. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. in the University Theatre.
Cameron University’s George D. Keathley Department of Military Science has presented awards and scholarships to members of the Comanche Battalion, Cameron’s Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) unit. The Comanche Battalion recognized cadets for meritorious performance in military science, academics, physical fitness, personal achievement and leadership.
Cameron University chemistry major Nathalie Moro was awarded third place in the Non-Life Sciences poster competition during the 28th annual OK-LSAMP Research Symposium, presented by the Oklahoma Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation.
Residents of Southwest Oklahoma and beyond are invited to celebrate the holiday season with festive tree lighting ceremonies hosted by Cameron University at both its Lawton and Duncan campuses. On Wednesday, November 30, festivities are scheduled at the Lawton campus beginning at 6 p.m. in Bentley Gardens. Cameron University-Duncan’s celebration will take place on Thursday, December 1, starting at 6 p.m. Both events are open to the public at no charge.
