The Department of Social Sciences at Cameron University will feature “Justice for All: The R.I.S.E. Program,” a collaboration between the Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology and the Oklahoma Department of Corrections. Christie Luther, founder and executive director of the R.I.S.E. Program, will be joined by graduates of the program to share success stories in presentations at 2 p.m. and at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 8, in the McCasland Ballroom.
In order to honor all 2021 graduates and to allow them to bring up to six guests, Cameron University will hold two 2021 Commencement ceremonies, set for Friday, May 7, and Saturday, May 8. Each ceremony will start at 7:30 p.m. in Cameron Stadium and will feature a Commencement address from CU alumnus Lonny Morrison. Students who completed coursework in December 2020 and May 2021, or who will complete requirements in July or December 2021 are eligible to participate in Commencement. COVID-19 protocols will be in effect.
Works by Cameron University students will be on public display in the Cameron University Art Teaching Gallery, located in the Art Building, in conjunction with the 2nd annual Student Art Competition and Exhibition. Featuring works of art created in a multitude of media, the exhibition will open with a reception and announcement of awards on Thursday, April 8, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Cameron University’s George D. Keathley Department of Military Science presented awards and scholarships to members of the Comanche Battalion, Cameron’s Army ROTC Unit, during a recent ceremony.
Cameron University will commemorate Arbor Day with the planting of six Eastern Redbud trees on the Lawton campus. The redbuds will be planted adjacent to Nance-Boyer Hall on Wednesday, March 24, at 1 p.m.
Priority registration for the Summer and Fall 2021 semesters at Cameron University begins on Tuesday, March 23. On that day, graduate students, seniors and honors program students can officially register for classes. Priority registration continues on Wednesday, March 24 for juniors; Thursday, March 25 for sophomores; and Friday, March 26 for freshmen.
Cameron University’s 11th Academic Festival, “Connections: Information Transfer Between People,” continues with a presentation by STEM/STEAM advocate Talithia Williams on Thursday, March 25, at 7:30 p.m.
If anyone can convince you that “Yes, You Can,” it’s Jim Stovall, keynote speaker for Cameron University’s sixth annual Inclusion and Leadership Summit. In his keynote address, Stovall will offer a vision of what can be achieved by those who say “yes” in the face of challenge and adversity. The half-day conference, which aims to provide education and awareness about the importance of inclusion and diversity, will take place virtually on Friday, March 26, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and is available to the public at no charge.
Dr. Kyle Moore, an associate professor in the Department of Chemistry, Physics and Engineering, has been appointed chair of the department, effective June 1. Moore will fill the role of chair that will be vacated by the retirement of Dr. Danny McGuire.
