A Cameron University professor is one of five southwest Oklahoma mentors who have been recognized by the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence and their community mentoring organizations during National Mentor Month.
When Cameron University professor Hyunsoon Whang sits onstage at her piano Thursday, Feb. 4, she won’t be alone. Joining Whang will be special guest Keith Robinson on cello as they present “An Evening of Russian Music for Cello and Piano” featuring the works of Rachmaninoff and Shostakovich.
Registration is now open for Cameron University’s and Cameron Campus Ministry’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration. Hannibal Johnson, this year’s keynote speaker, will present “Moving Forward Together: An American Agenda.” This virtual event is scheduled for 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Monday, January 25, via Zoom. Participants are asked to pre-register at https://www.cameron.edu/MLK to obtain the Zoom link. The presentation will explore diversity, equality, inclusion and related concepts, with an emphasis on our shared humanity.
Administrative offices at Cameron University will be closed for the holiday season beginning Monday, December 21, and will reopen at 8 a.m. on Monday, January 4, 2021. Classes for the Spring 2021 semester will begin on Monday, January 11.
The Cameron University Foundation is pleased to announce the establishment of two endowed scholarships that will benefit military science students in perpetuity. The LTG (R) Randall L. and Carol A. Rigby Endowed Scholarship in Military Science is earmarked for full-time CU students who demonstrate an intent to join CU’s Army ROTC program in pursuit of an officer’s commission. The CU Comanche Military Science Club Endowed Scholarship is open to any full-time CU student, with preference given to students studying military science.
Cameron University’s George D. Keathley Department of Military Science has presented awards and scholarships to members of the Comanche Battalion, Cameron’s Army ROTC unit. The Comanche Battalion recognized cadets for meritorious performance in military science, academics, physical fitness, personal achievement and leadership. Awards are sponsored by the Department of the Army, national and local societies, organizations, and businesses and private individuals.
The Cameron University/Lawton Civic Chorus, the Lawton Schubert Music Club and Fort Sill's New Post Chapel will join together for the 79th annual presentation of Handel's “Messiah.” The popular Lawton tradition will take place on Saturday, December 12, at 7:30 p.m. and can be viewed during a live stream via Facebook. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the performance will not have an in-person audience. The performance will be approximately one hour in length and will feature soloists and a professional orchestra that accompanies the volunteer chorus. Cameron University’s Bill W. Burgess, Jr. Business Research Center (BBRC) will host “COVID-19 and Our Community,” a business forum that will examine the impact of the current pandemic in our community. The forum will take place on Thursday, December 3, at 4 p.m. in the McCasland Ballroom of the McMahon Centennial Complex. Although the event is open to the public at no charge, seating is limited. Cameron University will be closed from November 25-27 for celebration of the Thanksgiving holiday. No classes will be held during this time, and administrative offices will be closed. Classes resume and offices re-open for normal business hours on Monday, November 30.
