Free tickets now available as Cameron University kicks off Academic Festival XI with mental health advocate Frank Warren


Cameron University will kick off its 11th Academic Festival, “Connections: Information Transfer Between People,” with a presentation by mental health advocate Frank Warren. The event, which is free and open to the public, takes place on Tuesday, September 22, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are required for admission and can be reserved online at http://www.cameron.edu/festivalxi. The deadline to order tickets is Friday, September 11. Tickets will be distributed by mail or can be picked up in advance from the Office of Public Affairs, Administration Building, Room 150 beginning on Monday, September 14. Cameron University alumna Brigit Minden wins Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching


Cameron University alumna Brigit Minden has been named as one of the recipients of the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST), the nation’s highest recognition of K-12 math and science teachers. The honor was announced by President Donald J. Trump earlier this week. Minden graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics and a minor in psychology. She teaches mathematics at Central High School, where she was the district’s Teacher of the Year in 2016.


Cameron University to examine “Connections: Information Transfer Between People” for Academic Festival XI


Cameron University has selected “Connections: Information Transfer Between People” as the theme for its 11th academic festival, a dynamic, privately funded, year-long symposium that explores a topic worthy of in-depth study. Through a series of presentations by nationally recognized speakers, Cameron will consider three distinct aspects of the festival theme: social interactions, workplace and medicine.


Academic chairs appointed at Cameron University


Two Cameron University faculty members have been appointed as departmental chairs, while the responsibilities of a current departmental chair have been expanded to include another academic unit. Dr. Shaun Calix, Associate Professor of Psychology, has been appointed Chair of the Department of Psychology, and Dr. Mike Husak, Professor of Biology, has been named Chair of the Department of Agriculture, Biology and Health Sciences. Dr. Stephanie Boss, Assistant Professor and Chair of the Department of Sports and Exercise Science, will also serve as Interim Chair of the Department of Education.


Tuition and fees at Cameron University to remain unchanged in new budget


Cameron University students continue as the primary focus of the university as today the university’s governing board was presented with a 2020-2021 budget that maintains tuition and fees at current rates. In addition to holding tuition and fees at current rates for the third consecutive year, the proposed $43,365,886 operating budget earmarks almost $34 million for student instruction, academic support, student scholarships and tuition waivers, and student services during the upcoming academic year. Cameron’s tuition and mandatory fees structure is also subject to approval by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.


Cameron University inducts 12 new members into Delta Mu Delta


Cameron University’s Iota Sigma chapter of the Delta Mu Delta (DMD) International Honor Society in Business recently inducted 12 new members via a virtual induction ceremony. Delta Mu Delta recognizes and encourages academic excellence to create a community that fosters the well-being of its individual members and the business community through lifetime membership. Dr. Greg Treadwell and Dr. Aubree Walton serve as faculty advisors to the chapter.
