Cameron University 2020 Commencement guidelines include social distancing, facial coverings


Cameron University’s 2020 Commencement is set for Saturday, October 10, at 7:30 p.m. in Cameron Stadium. Students who completed coursework in December 2019, May or July 2020, or will complete in December 2020 are eligible to participate in Commencement. Those planning to participate in the ceremony must register at www.cameron.edu/commencement/register-for-commencement. COVID-19 protocols will be in effect for the ceremony.


Cameron announces Summer 2020 honor rolls


Cameron University has announced the President’s and Dean’s honor rolls for the Summer 2020 semester. To make the President’s Honor Roll, undergraduate students must be enrolled full-time (carrying at least six hours of classes) and maintain a straight-A (4.0) average. The Dean’s Honor Roll requires a B (3.00-3.99) average.


Virtual presentation will detail steps to becoming a certified special education teacher


Are you interested in becoming a special education teacher but aren’t sure what steps to take to become certified? The Cameron University School of Graduate and Professional Studies can help, thanks to a virtual informational session that will focus on CU’s upcoming Special Education Boot Camp. The session will be conducted over Zoom on Wednesday, September 16 at 6 p.m. To register for the informational presentation, go to https://www.cameron.edu/education/events. Free tickets now available as Cameron University kicks off Academic Festival XI with mental health advocate Frank Warren


Cameron University will kick off its 11th Academic Festival, “Connections: Information Transfer Between People,” with a presentation by mental health advocate Frank Warren. The event, which is free and open to the public, takes place on Tuesday, September 22, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are required for admission and can be reserved online at http://www.cameron.edu/festivalxi. The deadline to order tickets is Friday, September 11. Tickets will be distributed by mail or can be picked up in advance from the Office of Public Affairs, Administration Building, Room 150 beginning on Monday, September 14. Cameron University alumna Brigit Minden wins Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching


Cameron University alumna Brigit Minden has been named as one of the recipients of the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST), the nation’s highest recognition of K-12 math and science teachers. The honor was announced by President Donald J. Trump earlier this week. Minden graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics and a minor in psychology. She teaches mathematics at Central High School, where she was the district’s Teacher of the Year in 2016.


Cameron University to examine “Connections: Information Transfer Between People” for Academic Festival XI


Cameron University has selected “Connections: Information Transfer Between People” as the theme for its 11th academic festival, a dynamic, privately funded, year-long symposium that explores a topic worthy of in-depth study. Through a series of presentations by nationally recognized speakers, Cameron will consider three distinct aspects of the festival theme: social interactions, workplace and medicine.


Academic chairs appointed at Cameron University


Two Cameron University faculty members have been appointed as departmental chairs, while the responsibilities of a current departmental chair have been expanded to include another academic unit. Dr. Shaun Calix, Associate Professor of Psychology, has been appointed Chair of the Department of Psychology, and Dr. Mike Husak, Professor of Biology, has been named Chair of the Department of Agriculture, Biology and Health Sciences. Dr. Stephanie Boss, Assistant Professor and Chair of the Department of Sports and Exercise Science, will also serve as Interim Chair of the Department of Education.
