The Cameron University Department of Art, Music and Theatre Arts will present the 2025 senior art exhibition, "Through Our Eyes," at the Leslie Powell Gallery, 620 S.W. D Avenue. An opening reception, which is open to the public at no charge, is planned for Saturday, April 5, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and is open to the public at no charge. Artwork for the exhibition, which will run through May 3, will be available for purchase.
Active members of the U.S. Armed Forces, veterans and dependents are invited to Cameron University’s Military Veterans Resource Fair slated for Wednesday, April 2, and Thursday, April 3. The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the first floor of the McMahon Centennial Complex. The building is located at University Drive and D Avenue. Visitor parking is available across the street.
Community members, including veterans, military service members and dependents, seeking information about the PACT Act and veteran healthcare resources, are invited to Cameron University’s seventh Vet Fest. The one-day takes place on Thursday, April 3, on the second floor of the McMahon Centennial Complex from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
High school art students throughout southwest Oklahoma are invited to submit their work to Cameron University’s Invitational High School Art Competition and Exhibition. Submissions can be dropped off April 1 through April 3 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Friday, April 4, until noon, at the CU Art Building, located on the east side of campus in the Louise D. McMahon Fine Arts Complex. Both two-dimensional works (paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, etc.) and three-dimensional works (sculptures, multi-media pieces, etc.) are welcome.
In September 2019, Cameron University professor of music Dr. Hyunsoon Whang embarked on a personal goal to performing the entire cycle of Beethoven’s 32 sonatas. This month, she will present the tenth – and penultimate – concert of that cycle on Sunday, March 30, at 3 p.m. in the McCutcheon Recital Hall.
When the Texas Society of Mammalogists issued a call for research presentations, Cameron students Teanna Doleman, Solomon Meraz, Honey Peters and Ivette Sarbia answered the call. The four biology majors, along with their research mentor, Dr. Dana Lee, an associate professor in the Department of Agriculture, Biology and Health Sciences, attended the organization’s annual conference in late February along with more than 60 students from universities throughout Oklahoma and Texas.
Dr. Leslie Cothren, currently Director of Events and Activities (formerly known as Campus Life) at Cameron University, has been selected as the university’s Dean of Students. The University of Oklahoma, Cameron University and Rogers State University Board of Regents approved Cothren’s appointment earlier this week. The appointment is effective immediately.
Dr. Shane Hunt will be the next president of Cameron University.
The Board of Regents for the University of Oklahoma, Cameron University and Rogers State University announced Hunt’s selection today during its regular meeting in Norman. Hunt – who will be Cameron’s 18th president since its founding in 1908 – will begin his duties July 1.
The legacy of Dr. J. Mickey Cooper’s service to Cameron University has been commemorated with the dedication of the university’s herbarium in the late faculty member’s honor. Cooper, a respected educator who was a member of CU’s faculty for 37 years, established the herbarium in 1964.
