Early Childhood Learning Lab
On the second floor of Nance-Boyer, a university classroom has been transformed into an early childhood learning environment. The classroom simulates what a literacy-rich classroom could look like for early childhood learners. The classroom is equipped with interactive centers, literacy stations, learning tables, along with room for young students to gather on the floor for a classroom lesson. The purpose of the Early Childhood Learning Lab is to allow current Early Childhood majors to have a hands-on experience with teaching in the classroom. Effective teachers need to feel confident with managing a classroom and leading instruction for this young age group. It is important to prepare our majors for effective teaching in an interactive environment. The Early Childhood Lab is one of the ways CU’s Department of Education prepares future teachers for the real world of teaching. The Early Childhood Learning Lab is incorporated into many courses within the program. Instructors challenge the Early Childhood majors to prepare lessons and facilitate learning through mock experiences. Our students are also encouraged to redesign the floorplan and explore new ways to enrich the classroom environment.
