Farm Facilities Student Worker - SAS/Department of Ag, Bio, and Health Sciences

University Farm student facilities workers report to the farm Manager. This position will help with basic building maintenance and grounds upkeep on the university’s Ellsworth, Home Farm, Duncan and Lawrence properties and Community Garden. Most of the time will be spent outside in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures. Experience with any of the following would be beneficial (but not required): mowing, weeding, string trimming, snow shoveling/plowing, painting, driving farm tractors. Any necessary training will be provided.

Duties Include

 o Assist with outdoor and indoor agricultural buildings maintenance including:

o Cleaning

o Mowing and string trimming

o Snow removal

o Minor repairs

o Light painting jobs

o Trail and other grounds maintenance

o Weeding and landscaping

o Community Garden weeding, cultivating and harvesting crops

o Other duties as assigned

o Operate a variety of power tools; chain saws, forestry mulcher etc.

Requirements

o Current Cameron University Student

o Enjoys working outdoors

o Must have the ability to work flexible hours during the work day between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday, at least 10-20 hours per week. Some after 5:00 pm and Saturday daytime hours may occasionally be assigned on an as-needed basis.

o Be willing to work outside in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures

o Tool and safety training by Farm Manager will be required

o Must be able to work independently, as a part of a team, and pay close attention to directions and details

o Excellent verbal and written communication skills

o Must possess a valid Oklahoma driver license and good driving record

o Some previous grounds or maintenance experience is helpful but not essential

Equivalent education /experience will substitute for all minimum requirements where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.

Condition of Employment

o A satisfactory outcome from background verification required prior to employment

o Physically able to do the required work, including manual labor, in outdoor locations and occasionally in adverse weather conditions

o Must be able to operate a state vehicle, which requires a valid driver’s license recognized by the State of Oklahoma

o Must be able to lift heavy objects, 50 lbs. on a regular basis

o Flexibility in work schedule, ability to adust to weather and demands on-th-fly

o Ability to working in all kinds of weather including smoke (wild fire potential), cold & heat over 90 degrees

o Working in an environment that may have allergens-dust, mold, grasses, etc.

o Working with hazardous materials such as bleach, gasoline, and motor oil

o Working in PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) when necessary (ex. Ear plugs, rubber gloves, safety goggles, etc.) Steel toe boots are required
