Community Resources 


how can community resources help students? 

The Community Resource Coordinator (CRC) helps Cameron University students locate, apply for, and obtain community resources, such as child care, food resources, housing resources, healthcare services, and financial assistance for rent, utilities, and other expenses. Students will discuss area of need and will be referred to the appropriate resource(s).

Resources

Transportation

  • LATS Bus:
    • (580) 248-5252, 609 SW Bishop Rd, Lawton OK 73501
    • LATS is the public transportation system serving the City of Lawton, Oklahoma. The buses move in clock-wise and counter clock-wise direction along with the routes with a fifteen-minute separation between the directions of movement. LATS also operates a shuttle service to the Fort Sill Artillery Base and accessible transportation options for those with additional or unique needs. LATS operates a fixed route bus system five (6) days a week is closed on Sundays.
    • Cameron Students ride the LATS bus at a discounted rate of $1.00 per ride. When boarding the bus, show your CU ID to the driver to receive discount. Students can purchase 10-ride and 31-day passes on campus in the Administration Building at the Student Accounts Office.
  • Red River Transportation:

    • Public transportation service provided in selected cities within the counties of Roger Mills, Beckham, Custer, Washita, Kiowa, Tillman, Cotton, Jefferson, Stephens, Woodward, Caddo, Carter, Comanche, Ellis, Dewey, and Canadian. All services are open to the public- must call ahead to schedule ride. Call for fare pricing information.
  • Comanche Nation Transit:
    • (580) 492-3389
    • Open to the public. Both Tribal and Non-Tribal. Comanche Nation Transit Provides Safe, reliable, and cost-efficient transportation to all people while providing a great customer experience. Students receive a discounted rate of $3.00 per ride. Transportation service is available to Lawton/Fort Sill area and surrounding communities of Cache, Apache, Elgin, Fletcher, Cyril, Anadarko, Carnegie, Fort Cobb, Binger, Verden, and Chickasha. Call to schedule your ride or download their app.

  • CU's Campus Life Office:

    • If students lack transportation to get to the Lawton Food Bank, they can reach out to Campus Life within the Office of Events and Activities to inquire about receiving groceries on campus through their partnership with the Lawton Food Bank. Contact the Office of Events and Activities for more information.

    • C. Carter Crane Center for Empowerment provides temporary shelter and services to meet basic needs of individuals who have fallen on hard times and have nowhere left to go. Call for more information.

Emergency Financial Assistance

  • Cameron Aggie Response Fund (CARE Fund):
    • The Cameron Aggie Response Fund also known as CARE is a fund designated to assist students with immediate needs due to extenuating financial circumstances. Before applying, review the CARE fund policies & procedures. Students can apply by following the instructions contained on the CARE Fund Application

Health & Wellness

  • Student Wellness Center 
    • The Student Wellness Center provides services that enhance the physical and mental health of Cameron University students. The health and wellness programs offered are designed to improve the quality of campus life and to improve the student’s success in achieving their academic goals.
    • Services include medical care for acute conditions, mental health counseling, monthly education programs, and interactive workshops. Contact the Wellness Center for more information
  • Comanche County Health Department:

    • The Comanche County Health Department provides a variety of services such as medical care, family and child services, health education and promotion, healthcare/Medicaid enrollment and services, community resources, and WIC & SNAP enrollment assistance. Appointments are encouraged.
  • District 5 Mobile Wellness Unit:

    • The Oklahoma State Department of Health has a fleet of wellness unit trailers and vans to help provide public health services in every corner of our state. The trailers are equipped to facilitate full clinic services, such as women’s exams and well-checks. The Mobile Wellness Unit visits Cameron University’s Lawton campus throughout the semester. Contact the Community Resource Coordinator or check your CU Email for specific dates and times. Students may also reach out directly to the Mobile Wellness Unit for this information or to ask any health related questions you may have.

 Marie Detty Youth & Family Services - New Directions Domestic Violence Hotline

Anyone is welcome to the Lawton, OK emergency shelter for children and adults, regardless of age and gender. Shelter is offered to people experiencing abuse, including intimate partner violence, sexual violence and stalking.
