Cameron University will continue its12th Academic Festival, “Care and Health: A Generational Approach,” with comedian Leighann Lord. The event, which is free and open to the public, takes place on Tuesday, February 27, at 7:30 p.m. in the University Theatre. Cameron University has announced that Michael “Mick” Coponiti will become its next Vice President for Business and Finance on January 22. The hiring was approved today by the Board of Regents for the University of Oklahoma, Cameron University and Rogers State University.
Cameron University President John McArthur plans to retire this summer.
Cameron University has named Lou Izzi to be its new Director of Athletics. Izzi will begin employment on February 1 and formally assume leadership responsibilities on March 1 upon the retirement of Jim Jackson after 19 years of service. Izzi has 25 years of relevant experience as a coach and athletic administrator, including eight years of experience as an athletic director or vice president for athletics.
Cameron University has named John Young as director of physical facilities. Currently serving as the university’s environmental health and safety officer, Young will take the position vacated by the retirement of Bob Hanefield effective January 10.
After more than 18 years serving as Cameron University’s Athletic Director, Jim Jackson has confirmed his intention to retire at the end of February 2024. As his tenure comes to a close, Jackson will be lauded for the significant impact he has had on CU’s athletics programs since taking the reins in August 2005.
