Cameron University has retained designation as a Military Friendly® School by G.I. Jobs magazine and has also been designated as a Military Spouse Friendly® School. CU is the only Oklahoma institution in the ranking’s Small Public category to receive designation.
Institutions earning the Military Friendly® School awards designation were evaluated using public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey. More than 1,800 schools participated in the 2025-26 survey, with 830 schools earning awards level designations in gold, silver, and bronze. Cameron’s designation is at the silver level.
Final ratings were determined by combining the institution’s survey scores with the assessment of the institution’s ability to meet thresholds for student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, persistence (degree advancement or transfer) and loan default rates for all students and, specifically, for student veterans.
Cameron’s commitment to active duty military, veterans and dependents is multi-faceted.
• Application fees are waived for active duty service members.
• Test administration fees are waived for active duty military members for tests such as CLEP, DSST or proctoring for other schools besides Cameron University.
• Military credit evaluation is offered for free.
• Military and military dependents whose sponsor is stationed at a duty location in Oklahoma can attend Cameron University at the in-state tuition rate.
• Cameron offers regularly scheduled courses on post at Fort Sill.
• Cameron University has been certified as a Yellow Ribbon school by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for waiving the remaining tuition not covered by the Post-9/11 GI bill for eligible students.
• Cameron University fosters unique partnerships that provide services to the community such as hosting local community engagement events by the Oklahoma City VA Health Care System. Other partnerships offer training and insights to available services for a variety of areas. Partners include Oklahoma Money Matters – Personal Financial Management, Forbes Coaching Council Expert, Fort Sill artillery and mascot displays, area museums that share historical veterans-related topics and the Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs.
• Cameron participates in the Military Spouse Career Advancement Portal and Financial Assistance Program by working closely with spouses of active duty military personnel to help them take advantage of this financial benefit.
• Cameron recognizes the recreational and cultural needs of military families. CU welcomes military families by offering a variety of free and reduced admission activities to athletic events, concerts, theatrical events and lectures.
• Additional services include Vet Fest and the Military Resource Fairs that bring a variety of veterans-related resources and organizations to campus, scholarship opportunities, career support and hosting DoD/VA processors to assist with claims processing.
• Academic support is provided in the form of tutoring, academic and career advising, counseling and assistance in applying for financial aid and veterans benefits.
• Other military-friendly opportunities include a VA work-study program, an active Student Veterans of America chapter, military-related service projects, social events and veterans cords for commencement.that are donated by the Lawton chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
• Cameron’s George D. Keathley Department of Military Science is home to the Comanche Battalion, one of the top Army ROTC programs in the nation.
