Cameron University has set room and board rates for the 2023-24 academic year. Approved by the Board of Regents for the University of Oklahoma, Cameron University and Rogers State University, the new rates will be effective August 1, 2023.
“Cameron University continues to be one of the most affordable options for a college degree in Oklahoma,” says John McArthur, president. “Above-average inflation has resulted in significant increases in our food and maintenance costs. A modest increase in rates will allow us to provide a great student experience, maintain our residential properties and guarantee the quality of food services. As we look ahead to next academic year, we continue to review our budget to identify cost-cutting measures to keep a college degree affordable.”
Housing rates for the 2023-24 academic year in both Shepler Center residence halls and Cameron Village apartments will increase by 3 percent, with plans starting at $1,253 per semester. The increase will address increased maintenance and utility costs, allowing Cameron to continue to provide a safe and educationally conducive living and learning environment. All semester rates include parking, unlimited laundry, cable television and internet, as well as membership in the Residence Hall Association. Cameron’s apartments and residence hall rates remain lower than the rates of similar facilities at peer institutions.
Residential meal plans for 2023-24 will increase by 9 percent and will start as low as $1,379 per semester. Over the past few years, Cameron’s food service costs have increased between 5 percent and 8 percent. The 9 percent rate increase to university meal plans will ensure student access to quality food at times convenient to them and will offset increased costs associated with the University’s food service contract.
Students who live on campus are required to have a meal plan. Plans are also available for commuter students and start as low as $101 per semester. All plans have a variety of options to meet individual needs. The plans ensure CU students have access to balanced and nutritional meals during the semester.
According to the College Board, the average annual cost of room and board at public four-year, in-state universities in 2022-23 was $12,310. In Oklahoma, the average is $8,950, according to the Education Data Initiative. CU’s proposed FY24 room and board rates (Shepler double room rate with 8-flex meal plan, the lowest standard rate) are 47.7 percent lower than the national average and 28.1 percent lower than the Oklahoma average for public, four-year universities.
