The Cameron University Department of Art, Music, and Theatre Arts will continue its 2021-2022 Spirited Season with “Jake’s Women,” a comedy by Neil Simon. The production will be presented in the University Theatre from Thursday, November 18, through Sunday, November 21. The curtain goes up on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $13 for adults and $10 for senior citizens, military, Cameron faculty and staff, and non-Cameron students. CU students receive one free admission with their CU I.D. Tickets can be reserved by calling the box office at 580-581-2346.
Jake, a novelist who is more successful with fiction than with life, faces a marital crisis by daydreaming about the women in his life. The wildly comic and sometimes moving flashbacks played in his mind are interrupted by visitations from actual females. Jake’s women include a revered first wife who was killed years earlier in an accident, his daughter who is recalled as a child but is now a young woman, his boisterous and bossy sister, an opinionated analyst, his current wife who is leaving Jake for another man, and a prospective third wife.
Recent Cameron graduate Payton Williams, Comanche, plays the role of Jake. Also from Comanche is Shayson Hodges as Molly (age 12). Joining them are Shalyn Bowles, Geronimo, as Maggie, Carmen Head, Alvarado, Texas, as Karen, and Aubrey Waxler, Del City as Edith. Additional cast members include Araia Heathcott as Julie, Destiny Abila as Sheila, and Kyleigh Garmon as Molly (age 21). All are from Lawton.
Stephanie Sabol is the lighting designer and Nina Pebeahsy is the sound designer and operator. Both are Theatre Arts seniors from Lawton.
They are joined by Sidni Blalock, Duncan, as the stage manager and Francis Waweru, Nairobi, Kenya, running crew/wardrobe. Jaiden Standridge, Duncan, is also on the running crew. Lawton residents involved in the production are Curtis Myers and Micah Harris on the running crew, and Victor Quinones as the light board operator. They are joined by Kiari Gosha who serves as house manager.
Faculty working on the show include associate professor Eric Abbott as costume and makeup designer; assistant professor Ben Williams as scenic designer. Assistant professor Dr. Natalie McCabe is the director of the production.
