Cameron University enrollment continues to climb; concurrent enrollment surpasses Spring 2023 record

Enrollment at Cameron University this spring has increased more than 5 percent from a year ago, and the number of high school students taking college-level coursework at CU continues to soar.

Enrollment for the Spring 2024 semester is up 5.25 percent from the same semester in 2023, which continues an upward trend from at the start of the Fall 2023 semester last August. Additionally, the number of concurrently enrolled high school students continues to climb. This semester, concurrent enrollment increased by 32.64 percent over Spring 2023, setting a new high for spring enrollment with 642 high school students from area schools.

“I am excited to see more students enrolled at Cameron on our campuses in Lawton and Duncan and through distance education,” said CU president John McArthur. “We appreciate our area partners in common education, career technology and community colleges for sharing students with us as part of their educational journeys.”

Under a program made possible by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, participating high school seniors may be eligible to receive a tuition waiver for as many as 18 credit hours of concurrent coursework during the academic year, and high school juniors may be eligible to receive a tuition waiver for up to nine credit hours.

“Cameron’s concurrent enrollment continues to grow,” said Dr. Jerrett D. Phillips, Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Success. “It’s not surprising to see more high school students getting an early start on earning a college degree, since qualifying high school juniors and seniors are eligible for tuition waivers.”

Delivered online or via traditional instruction on a college or high school campus, concurrent enrollment courses are taught by qualified faculty providing the student a collegiate experience.
