Cameron University receives grant from Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics

When the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics (ODAA) announced the recipients of almost $2 million in grants at its recent meeting, Cameron University was on the list. CU’s annual Applied Mathematics and Aerospace Engineering Summer Academy has received funding from ODAA for the seventh year.

“We’re so grateful that the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics continues to recognize the importance of this summer academy,” says Dr. Ann Nalley, professor of chemistry and coordinator of the academy. “Receiving this grant from ODAA’s Competitive Aerospace and Aviation Education program allows us to continue our efforts to introduce middle school girls to STEM disciplines. As we enter the 10th year of the academy, we’ve seen an abundance of our participants continue to embed themselves in STEM initiatives; many are now pursuing college degrees that will lead to professional roles that will advance Oklahoma’s aeronautics industry.”

The summer academy, designed for Oklahoma middle school girls, introduces several aspects within the fields of science engineering through the use of academic projects related to mathematics and aerospace engineering and which also stimulate creativity. The summer academy is set for June 1-6, 2025. Applications will open in spring 2025.
