Active members of the U.S. Armed Forces, veterans and dependents are invited to Cameron University’s Military Veterans Resource Fair slated for Wednesday, April 5, and Thursday, April 6. The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the first floor of the McMahon Centennial Complex. The building is located at University Drive and D Avenue. Visitor parking is available across the street.
“Cameron University’s Military Veterans Resource Fair is designed to benefit veterans, active military and dependents, and will help ensure that those constituents are familiar with the vast array of resources and organizations that are available to them,” says Vicki Henson, Assistant Director of Financial Assistance Services and Coordinator of Veterans Affairs. “All together, the organizations who will be in attendance will offer a comprehensive list services and programs.”
Participating organizations and the topics/resources they provide include:
• Comanche County Veterans Council (activities and partnerships to ensure uniform, protective programs for veterans, spouse, windows/widowers, minor children, and other veterans)
• Disabled American Veterans (accessing the full range of benefits available to veterans)
• Fort Sill National Cemetery
• Gold Star Wives of America (survivor issues on both the federal and state levels)
• Integrated Veterans Care (how the VA can pay for veterans to seek care within their own community)
• Lawton/Fort Sill VA Outpatient Clinic
• Muskogee Federal Department of Veterans Affairs Regional Processing Office (VA educational benefits, federal hiring process, how to access and utilize USAjobs, types of veterans preference, and tips for writing a federal resume)
• Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs (claims assistance, appeals with claims before the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs)
• Oklahoma Women Veterans Organization – Lawton/Fort Sill Chapter (numerous services for Oklahoma women veterans)
• Oklahoma Works―American Job Network (veteran services)
• Paws with Love Therapy Dogs, Inc.
• Peer Support – VA Women’s Clinic
• Red River Vet Center (readjustment counseling and information resources to veterans, focusing on services that help veterans make the difficult transition between military and civilian life)
• Redlands Veterans Upward Bound program (free college-prep program)
• The Red Cord (education and awareness of human trafficking)
• Suicide Prevention Office, USDVA (suicide prevention resources)
• Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5263 (numerous programs and services, which include ensuring that veterans receive earned entitlements)
• Veterans Service Center at Fort Sill (VA compensation and pension benefits)
• VetSuccess on Campus (specialized career, financial and personalized counseling services and employment search assistance; VA Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment program)
Cameron University will have numerous campus offices/organizations participating as well. They include:
• George D. Keathley Department of Military Science (Army ROTC, Army Green-to-Gold program)
• Office of Student Support Services (offering academic support services to Cameron students who have academic need, are first generation, have an economic need, or students with disabilities)

• Student Enrichment Center (available resources, including personalized non-academic support, coaching sessions aimed at increasing study skills, access to community resources to help meet food, housing, and health care needs, job shadowing and internships, financial literacy and more)
