Cameron University has announced that Michael “Mick” Coponiti will become its next Vice President for Business and Finance on January 22. The hiring was approved today by the Board of Regents for the University of Oklahoma, Cameron University and Rogers State University.
Coponiti comes to CU from the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, where he has served as Vice President for Business and Finance since 2006. He joined the USAO staff in 1994 and earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Cameron in 1999.
“Mick brings a wealth of experience as a chief financial officer at another Oklahoma institution of higher education as well as being one of our graduates,” says Cameron president John McArthur. “His expertise in business and finance combined with his commitment to higher education will benefit Cameron University and its students, faculty and staff.”
As Vice President for Business and Finance, Coponiti will serve as the university’s chief financial officer. He will oversee administration and leadership of the Business Office, Office of Human Resources and Office of Public Safety. Coponiti will also work collaborate with other university administrators to fund, maintain and improve a living and learning environment that is conducive to student and employee success.
Areas of direct responsibility include preparation of university budgets as well as establishment and maintenance of an effective accounting and financial reporting system for all institution and CU Foundation funds, including the monitoring of expenditures of funds for compliance with donor intent, Regents policies, state and federal regulations and laws. Additionally, he will oversee all aspects of accounting, including cash flow, planning, reporting, organizational and departmental budgeting and forecasting; preparation of financial statements and various reports required from federal agencies, state agencies and the Board of Regents; and oversight of the university’s fiscal activity, including budgeting, reporting, and auditing.
