Cothren named Dean of Students

Dr. Leslie Cothren, currently Director of Events and Activities (formerly known as Campus Life) at Cameron University, has been selected as the university’s Dean of Students. The University of Oklahoma, Cameron University and Rogers State University Board of Regents approved Cothren’s appointment earlier this week. The appointment is effective immediately.

The Dean of Students works collaboratively and creatively with other university leaders to maintain and improve a living and learning environment conducive to student success. In this role, Cothren will be responsible for administration and leadership of the Offices of Student Services. Areas of oversight will include campus housing, student activities, student government, student organizations, judicial affairs related to student conduct, student development, disability services, the Aggie Rec Center, the Student Wellness Center and community events and activities.

Cothren joined the CU staff in January 2013 as a student activities specialist. Two years later, she was promoted to Director of Campus Life (which subsequently was renamed Events and Activities). In these roles, Cothren has created programs, events and outreach that connect students with each other and the institution.

She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from Cameron in 2000, a Master of Education in higher education from the University of Arkansas in 2002, and a Ph.D. in educational leadership and policy studies from Oklahoma State University in 2019. Cothren is a long-time volunteer on the Board of Directors of the Lawton Food Bank.

Prior to joining the Cameron staff, Cothren’s background includes stints at Dickinson College and Centenary College of Louisiana.
