CU advises students to complete FAFSA now for summer, fall semesters

Cameron University students who have not yet completed the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) are encouraged to do so as quickly as possible. For students who only attended Spring 2024, the deadline is May 3. For students who are attending Summer 2024, the FAFSA deadline is June 30. Although the deadline for the 2024-25 school year is June 30, 2025, students are encouraged to complete the FAFSA now.

CU will begin issuing financial aid offers to prospective and current students in mid-May and will continue through the summer months. In 2021-22, 77 percent of CU undergraduate students received financial aid.

“Financial aid packages are vital to a Cameron student’s path to degree completion,” says Caryn Pacheco, director of financial assistance. “We encourage all prospective and current students who have not yet completed the new FAFSA to do so immediately.”

Since the U.S. Department of Education released a new form known as A Better 2024-25 FAFSA in late December 2023, CU’s Office of Financial Assistance has identified the challenges and opportunities that have resulted due to changes in the form.

A completed FAFSA is required for all federal grants, work study jobs and additional financial aid support. All students – including those who are not sure if they quality for financial aid – are advised to complete the FAFSA.

Students who have not yet completed their FAFSA can do so at studentaid.gov. Applicants should include CU’s Federal School code of 003150 to release their information to CU.

Summer classes will begin on Wednesday, May 22. The Fall 2024 semester will start on Monday, August 19.
