Earth Day tradition continues as Lawton Northeast On-Line Branch Lions Club donate a tree to Cameron University

Donating a tree to the Cameron University campus has become an Earth Day tradition for the Lawton Northeast On-Line Branch Lions Club. Last week, the club donated another Eastern Redbud, which was planted on the north side of Aggie Gym. This marks the 14th consecutive year the group has donated at least one tree to Cameron.

“It’s a special privilege as Lions to continue this tradition,” said Joe Wotring, a member of the club. He and club members Allen Granger, Judy McCarthy, Paul McCarthy, Doug Rice and Vivian Silverstrim gathered to commemorate the latest addition to the Eastern Redbuds that surround Aggie Gym.

“The trees around Aggie Gym really provide a punch of color to campus each spring,” said Albert Johnson Jr., vice president for university advancement. “Since traditions are a staple at college campuses, we’re blessed that the members of the Lawton Northeast On-Line Branch Lions Club have established this tradition at Cameron University.”

The members of the Lawton Northeast On-Line Branch Lions Club began donating trees to CU in 2009.
