Cameron University has appointed Jason Bost as environmental health and safety officer. Bost was previously an assistant professor in the George D. Keathley Department of Military Science. Prior to Bost’s retirement from the U.S. Army in late 2024, under the Department of Defense’s Skillbridge program, he served an internship at CU where he undertook the responsibilities of the university’s environmental health and safety officer as the position was vacant.
Bost’s responsibilities include supporting campus adherence to occupational safety and health rules, regulations, policies, and procedures including compliance with industrial hygiene and health regulations at the local, state and federal level. His duties include development, implementation and evaluation of safety policies and programs encompassing environmental and occupational health, safety, hazardous materials management, and emergency preparedness plans, exercises and drills.
Bost will also develop corrective methods, controls and procedures to improve the campus work and learning environment and will advise appropriate personnel of new federal, state or local regulations from entities such as OSHA, EPA, NIMS, FEMA and Homeland Security as well as state and local authorities that may impact the university. In addition, he coordinates and maintains the university’s Health and Safety Program and assures that Material Safety Data Sheets are correctly posted and processed in a timely manner and that all records are maintained in the appropriate locations.
