Lawton Community Orchestra to present “An Evening with the Classics”

Aficionados of classical music can look forward to “An Evening with the Classics” presented by Cameron University’s Lawton Community Orchestra. The ensemble will perform music by some of classical music’s most heralded composers. The concert is slated for Tuesday, October 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the McCutcheon Recital Hall.

Tickets purchased at the door are $10 for adult and $8 for senior citizens, members of the military and non-CU students. Cameron University students, faculty and staff receive one free admission with their CU I.D. Tickets can be reserved by calling the box office at 580-581-2346. Tickets can also be purchased in advance online at https://www.cameron.edu/art-music-and-theatre/events/buy-tickets. (Taxes and processing fees apply.)

The concert will open with a piece that should be familiar to all, “March of the Swiss Soldiers” from Giocchino Rossino’s “William Tell Overture,” otherwise known as the theme song for “The Lone Ranger.”

That will be followed by another memorable melody as the ensemble performs Bach’s “Chorale and Minuet,” an excerpt from Haydn’s Symphony No. 94, and Handel’s Overture from “Music for the Royal Fireworks.” The evening will end with two pieces by Mozart. The Allegro from “Sonata in B-flat,” a cello duet featuring Austin Wilson and Dr. Kirsten Underwood, and “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik.”

The Lawton Community Orchestra is directed by Angela Ruiz. Ensemble members include Cameron students Tessah Caddo, Kaitlan Kaulaity, Kim Lamkin and Russel Simington, all of Lawton, and Austin Wilson, Tyler, Texas. They are joined by community members Dolores Anderson and Xavier McClure from Lawton.
