Lawton Northeast On-Line Branch Lions Club continues Earth Day tradition at Cameron University

Thanks to the Lawton Northeast On-Line Branch Lions Club, the grounds surrounding Aggie Gym are dotted in colorful pink and purple blossoms each spring, as the club has donated the Eastern Redbuds found around the building. Two new trees were added this year in continuance of the club’s Earth Day tradition, marking the 15th year of a tree donation to Cameron University.

Club members Al Granger, K.W. Hillis, Elaine Keir, Doug Rice and Vivian Silverstrim joined Albert Johnson Jr., vice president for university advancement, to commemorate the event.

“When I went to Cameron, there were very few trees on campus,” Granger said. “It’s such a joy seeing how beautiful the campus is now, and it’s gratifying to know that our club contributed to that effort.”

“We are so appreciative of the Lawton Northeast On-Line Branch Lions Club, who have established this tradition,” said Johnson. “It’s rewarding to know that this great civic organization – which has numerous members that have ties to the university – keeps Cameron on its priority list.”

The members of the Lawton Northeast On-Line Branch Lions Club began donating trees to CU in 2009.
