Learn “The Art of Inspiration” and more at Cameron’s 2025 Leadership Summit

Learn how inspiration can provide the pathway to success during Cameron University’s 2025 Leadership Summit. Visual artist Richard Hight will offer “The Art of Inspiration” following a series of presentations geared to ignite the leadership capabilities with us all. The half-day conference will take place on Friday, April 11, starting at 9 a.m. in the Mary Lou and W. Carey Johnson Auditorium in Cynthia Ross Hall.

The event is open to the public at no charge; registration is required and can be completed online at https://www.cameron.edu/student-development/summit.

The summit will kick off at 9 a.m. with “Being Your Authentic Self,” presented by CU instructor Corey Sanders. Being your authentic self means being true to who you are, even when it's difficult. It involves being honest with yourself and others, and living in alignment with your values.

At 10 a.m., CU alumna Peggy Gaines will present “Growing in Confidence.” Learn how to cultivate self-confidence, tracing the root of the self-doubt, cultivating a positive mindset, embracing strengths and accomplishments, and building resilience and belief to tackle greater challenges, as these actions can contribute to a greater sense of self-assuredness.

At 11 a.m., a panel featuring Young Professionals of Lawton will focus on “Leading by Example.” What is the difference between a leader versus a manager? The panel will discuss qualities a good leader should have and ways to foster collaborative and positive relationships.

Following lunch at noon, Hight will present “The Art of Inspiration” at 12:30 p.m. Overcoming challenges faced at a young age led Hight to valuable lessons learned about focusing on strengths and recognizing possibilities, not limitations. His artistic gift allowed him to express his ideas, and his successes built his confidence. From this his mission emerged – “Vision, Focus, Grit!”

Hight’s impressionist approach to painting equips him to successfully communicate with his audience. He wants the audience to focus on the artistic process, not the finished canvas: he shows that trusting creative impulses can yield surprising and beautiful results.

With his often-humorous storytelling, he has entertained diverse audiences around the world. During his interaction with his audience, he creates a stunning visual image. The vivid colors he selects, the broad flourishes that coalesce into a piece of fine art, and the passion Hight possesses harmonize into an imaginative encounter that inspires and compels those present.

The 2025 Leadership Summit is presented by Cameron University’s Office of Student Development with financial support from CU Lectures and Concerts. For more information, call 580-581-2209 or email student_development@cameron.edu.
