Cameron University will honor students who either completed requirements for master’s degrees in December 2024 or who will complete requirements in May 2025, July 2025 or December 2025 at its 18th Hooding Ceremony on Friday, May 9, at 3 p.m. The ceremony will take place in Aggie Gym. Lt. Col. Brian Hayes, a military intelligence officer and chair of the George D. Keathley Department of Military Science, will address the master’s candidates.
A native of Maryland, Hayes has devoted 29 years to serving in the U.S. Army, where he has held numerous positions of increasing responsibility, including two combat deployments in Iraq. Hayes is now responsible for preparing ROTC cadets to become commissioned officers, a vital role he has undertaken since joining the faculty at Cameron University in 2022.
In addition to his distinguished military career, Hayes holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from McDaniel College, where he graduated summa cum laude, and a Master of Science degree in Strategic Intelligence from the National Intelligence University. He is set to earn a Master of Science degree in Organizational Leadership from Cameron on May 9. Hayes’s academic achievements have been recognized through his recent induction into the Phi Kappa Phi and Delta Mu Delta honor societies at Cameron.
Hayes is married to the former Melissa Anne Mangold, and they have a 16-year-old son, Timothy.
