Active members of the U.S. Armed Forces, veterans and dependents are invited to Cameron University’s Military Veterans Resource Fair slated for Wednesday, November 6, and Thursday, November 7. The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the first floor of the McMahon Centennial Complex. The building is located at University Drive and D Avenue. Visitor parking is available across the street.
“We are happy to provide a vast array of resources for veterans, active military and dependents,” says Vicki Henson, Assistant Director of Financial Assistance Services and Coordinator of Veterans Affairs. “Cameron’s Military Veterans Resource Fair will help ensure that those constituents have to a comprehensive list of services and programs.”
Participating organizations and the topics/resources they provide include:
• American Legion – Post 6
• Comanche County Veterans Council (activities and partnerships to ensure uniform, protective programs for veterans, spouse, widows/widowers, minor children, and other veterans)
• Fort Sill National Cemetery
• Fort Sill Survivors Outreach Services
• Gold Star Wives of America (survivor issues on both the federal and state levels)
• Integrated Veteran Care (formerly Community Care), a division of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
• Lawton Vet Center and Lawton Mobile Vet Center (readjustment counseling and information resources to veterans, focusing on services that help veterans make the difficult transition between military and civilian life)
• Muskogee Federal Department of Veterans Affairs Regional Processing Office (VA educational benefits, federal hiring process, how to access and utilize USAjobs, types of veterans preference, and tips for writing a federal resume)
• Native American Nurse Navigator and Tribal Liaison (Wednesday only)
• Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs (claims assistance, appeals with claims before the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs)
• Oklahoma Women Veterans Organization – Lawton/Fort Sill Chapter (numerous services for Oklahoma women veterans)
• Oklahoma Works―American Job Network (veteran services)
• Paws with Love Therapy Dogs, Inc.
• Redlands Veterans Upward Bound program (free college-prep program)
• Suicide Prevention Office, USDVA (suicide prevention resources)
• VA Health Care Eligibility
• VA Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment program and VetSuccess on Campus counselor
• Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5263 (numerous programs and services, which include ensuring that veterans receive earned entitlements)
• Veterans Service Center at Fort Sill (VA compensation and pension benefits) (Wednesday only)
