A talented group of Cameron University music students will come together to present Soirée XVI: Brahms Liederabend. During the concert, CU piano students will accompany vocal students as they perform eight songs by Johannes Brahms. Soirée XVI: Brahms Liederabend takes place on Tuesday, April 29, at 7:30 p.m. in the McCutcheon Recital Hall.
Tickets purchased at the door are $10 for adult and $8 for senior citizens, members of the military and non-CU students. Cameron University students, faculty and staff receive one free admission with their CU I.D. Tickets can be reserved by calling the box office at 580-581-2346. Tickets can also be purchased in advance online at https://www.cameron.edu/art-music-and-theatre/events/buy-tickets. (Taxes and processing fees apply.)
Vocals students under the guidance of Dr. Christian Morren and Doris Lambert and piano students of Dr. Hyunsoon Whang – who have prepared for this concert thanks to the accompanying class taught by Lambert – will unite to demonstrate their prowess on stage. Students learn a valuable experience by collaborating with their colleagues, being coached by faculty members other than their own teacher and exploring the nuances and challenges found in many of Brahms’ compositions.
“Dr. Morren and I felt that our vocal and piano students would greatly benefit from studying and performing Brahms’ songs,” says Whang. “His songs have beautiful melodies, sophisticated harmonies and rhythms along with challenging piano parts.”
Featured pianists will include Lillie Hodgson, Duncan; Arath Javier, Lawton; and Chelsea Mitchell, Cache. Adjunct music instructor Khalil Cabrera-Tosado will also serve as an accompanist. Vocalists appearing will be Sophia Avila, Vanessa Cleophat, Divina D’Haiti, Kristin Dunn, Winston Hartley, Alex Miller, Aleah Weber and Lillie Wright, all of Lawton.
