The Cameron University Department of Art, Music and Theatre Arts is pleased to announce the winners of its fourth annual Student Art Competition. The honorees were selected by CU alumnus Matthew Hughes, an active artist and director of the Leslie Powell Art Gallery.
The exhibition will be on display at CU’s Art Teaching Gallery, located in the Art Building, through February 19.
Lawton’s Jaden Pebeahsy was honored with the first-place award in the Two-Dimensional Art category for her oil on canvas, “Tiaye & Jaden.” Kanney Do, Lawton, earned second place with her lithographic print, “As It May.” Third place was awarded to Sage Girardot, Lawton, for her oil on canvas, “Pushing Boundaries.”
In the Three-Dimensional Art category, Fletcher’s Lorena Jaquez was awarded first place for “Childhood Memories,” a wood sculpture.
Honorable mention awards were presented to Mallory Cajas, Lawton, for her charcoal, “Portrait of a Woman”; Jason Mitchell, Lawton, for “Printshop Series #3,” a gouache on Bristol; and Melissa Heilig, Fletcher, for her gouache, “M37 Series – Warm/Cold Contrast.”
Mathew Gonzalez, Lawton, received the Award of Exceptionalism, which recognizes outstanding work across several media, as well as exceptional work ethic and prolific artwork production.
